The U.S. State Department has approved the potential sale of equipment and follow-on support for MH-60R Seahawk helicopters to India for an estimated cost of $1.17 billion, the Pentagon said on Dec. 2.
The principal contractor will be Lockheed Martin, the Defense Security Cooperation Agency said in a statement.
The agency states that the sale will bolster the foreign policy and national security goals of the United States by enhancing the United States-India strategic partnership and reinforcing the security of a key defense ally, which remains a vital contributor to political stability, peace, and economic advancement in the Indo-Pacific and South Asia regions.
Furthermore, the equipment will enhance the Government of India’s ability to counter both current and emerging threats through the advancement of anti-submarine warfare capabilities. "India will have no difficulty absorbing this equipment and services into its armed forces," the agency said.
"Implementation of this sale will require travel of up to twenty U.S. Government or up to twenty-five contractor representatives to the Government of India on a temporary basis for program technical support and management oversight," the agency further added.
