U.S. Surgeon General Vivek Murthy's India visit focuses on mental health solutions
Murthy, serving as “America’s Top Doctors,” visited Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru on World Mental Health Day.

U.S. Surgeon General Vivek Murthy visited Indian cities including Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru in the last week on World Mental Health Day to address the global mental health and loneliness crisis. Murthy serving as “America’s Top Doctors” is first of Indian descent from Karnataka.
As co-chair of the WHO Commission on Social Connection, Murthy’s visit to India was part of a global effort to address mental health through shared experiences and solutions.
Speaking at the Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences in Bengaluru, Murthy expressed gratitude for returning to India, reflecting on the values his parents instilled in him. He emphasized the importance of community, service, and the strong health partnership between the U.S. and India.
Murthy had a conversation with Ira Khan and Aamir Khan, while he was in Mumbai. On Twitter, he expressed gratitude for their open and honest discussion about mental health as father and daughter. "I loved our conversation and can’t wait to share it with everyone," he shared.

U.S. Consul General in Chennai, Chris Hodges, welcomed Murthy to Bengaluru, praising his support for mental health and the importance of social connections in building community, support, and hope.
During his trip, Murthy engaged with young people at the Mariwala Health Initiative, discussed mental health, loneliness, and social media with students at several schools, and observed Noora Health’s family-centered caregiving model at Sri Jayadeva Institute.
