In a statement issued by Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre, President Biden is set to host the inaugural Trilateral Leaders’ Summit of the Philippines, Japan, and the United States at the White House, welcoming President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. of the Philippines and Prime Minister Kishida Fumio of Japan. The summit, scheduled for Apr. 11, signifies a significant diplomatic milestone in strengthening relations among the three nations.
This marks a significant step in strengthening the trilateral partnership, which is rooted in deep historical ties, robust economic relations, and a shared commitment to democratic values and a free and open Indo-Pacific.
The leaders aim to bolster the ironclad alliances between the United States and both the Philippines and Japan, reaffirming their dedication to promoting peace and security in the Indo-Pacific region and beyond.
Discussions at the summit will focus on enhancing trilateral cooperation to foster inclusive economic growth, harness emerging technologies, promote clean energy supply chains, and address climate change challenges.
President Biden will hold a separate meeting with President Marcos on the same day to review the positive trajectory of U.S.-Philippines relations. The agenda will encompass efforts to expand cooperation in various areas including economic security, clean energy initiatives, people-to-people exchanges, and the promotion of human rights and democracy.
During this meeting, President Biden will also underscore the unwavering commitment of the United States to upholding international law and advancing a free and open Indo-Pacific region.
