The United States cricket team made history on Feb. 18 by successfully defending 122 runs against Oman in the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup League 2, breaking India’s 40-year record for the lowest total ever defended in a men’s One Day International (ODI) match.
After being bowled out for 122, USA’s spinners dismantled Oman for just 65, securing a 57-run victory.

The previous record held by India was against Pakistan in the Rothmans Four-Nation Cup at Sharjah in 1985 when the men in blue defended 125 runs.
Nosthush Kenjige was the standout performer for the USA, claiming 5 wickets for just 11 runs in 7.3 overs. Milind Kumar also played a pivotal role, contributing an unbeaten 47 runs with the bat to push the total past 100, and later added 2 wickets with the ball. On the other hand, Oman’s Hammad Mirza was the only batter to reach double digits, scoring 29 runs off 43 balls.
In a match dominated by spin, a total of 19 wickets fell to spinners, marking the joint-highest number of wickets taken by spin bowlers in an ODI match. Remarkably, no fast bowler bowled a single over, making it the first men’s ODI in history with only spinners in action.
The win was crucial for USA in the Cricket World Cup League Two standings. The tournament serves as a qualification pathway for the 2027 ODI World Cup, with the top four teams advancing to the World Cup Qualifier.
