The Secretary for Trade and Foreign Agricultural Affairs, The US Department of Agriculture (USDA) Alexis M. Taylor will lead 47 diverse businesses and organizations in a trade mission to New Delhi, India from Apr. 22 to 25.

During the trade mission, participants will partake in focused meetings and site visits aimed at forging new trade connections, reinforcing current partnerships, observing US products in the market, and gaining insights into the latest food trends among Indian consumers. They will also benefit from comprehensive market briefings provided by USDA’s Foreign Agricultural Service and industry trade specialists.

Senator Tina Smith, a member of the Senate Indian Affairs Committee, commended the participation of Red Lake Nation’s Red Lake, Inc. being the sole representative from a Native or Tribal community,

“We need to support all farmers—and that includes making sure we’re advocating for Native farmers who may face unique and challenging barriers to successfully owning and operating farms,” said Sen. Smith.

“This trade mission to India will be a great opportunity for Red Lake to cultivate new markets for their agriculture products,” she added.

Through its expansive international presence, USDA is actively working to unlock new opportunities for American food and agricultural producers in global markets. Notably, India's recent reduction of tariff requirements for various US agricultural products, including poultry, vegetables, fruits, pulses, and tree nuts, has bolstered the trade relationship between the two countries.

The upcoming trade mission will build upon these achievements, seeking to solidify additional purchase agreements for American farmers, ranchers, and producers while further strengthening trade ties between the United States and India, a press release by the Foreign Agricultural Service said.
