The U.S.-India Strategic Partnership Forum (USISPF) hosted a briefing on Capitol Hill to discuss the growing strategic partnership between the United States and India.
The event, in collaboration with the Congressional Caucus on India and Indian Americans, brought together 11 members of Congress, including Caucus Co-Chairs Rep. Rich McCormick, R-Ga., and Rep. Ro Khanna, D-Calif., as well as Indian Ambassador to the United States Vinay Mohan Kwatra. Discussions focused on strengthening collaboration in defense, trade, and technology.

USISPF president and CEO Mukesh Aghi emphasized the bipartisan support for the U.S.-India relationship, calling it "the most important strategic partnership of the 21st century." He highlighted ongoing cooperation between Washington and New Delhi in the Indo-Pacific region, including joint initiatives such as the Quad, I2U2, and the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC).
Ambassador Vinay Mohan Kwatra, the Ambassador of India to the United States, noted the deepening ties between the two nations, setting a goal of $500 billion in bilateral trade in the coming years. " We have set an ambitious agenda across defense, trade, technology, science, education, and people-to-people ties. We are committed to grow and expand this relationship into new territories and new areas, including $500 billion in trade in the coming years,” Kwatra said.

Describing India as a critical ally, particularly in trade and defense, Rep. McCormick reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening ties with New Delhi while supporting the Indian-American diaspora. “As a co-chairman of the India and Indian-American Caucus and the representative of many hard-working Indian-Americans, I have the privilege of seeing these hard-working folks embody the values of the American dream. I'm committed to building mutual cooperation between our two nations in the years to come while advocating for the Indian-American diaspora here at home.”
Rep. Khanna echoed these sentiments, saying the U.S.-India partnership will be one of the defining relationships of the 21st century. “We had a meaningful discussion on the importance of this strategic alliance and reaffirmed our shared commitment to advancing national security, economic prosperity, and technological innovation,” Khanna added.
The other lawmakers present at the briefing were Rep. Marc Veasey (TX-33), Rep. Jim Costa (CA-21), Rep. Glenn Grothman (WI-6), Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi (IL-8), Rep. Ed Case (HI-1), Rep. Kim Schrier (WA-8), Rep. Janelle Bynum (OR-5), Rep. Derek Tran (CA-45), and Rep. Herb Conaway (NJ-3).
USISPF announced plans for additional briefings and district visits throughout 2025, with the next U.S.-India trade staff briefing scheduled for April 22 on Capitol Hill.
