The United States Premier League (USPL) launched its third season on Nov. 22 with an opening ceremony at Broward County Stadium in Lauderhill, Florida, blending cricket's growing popularity in the U.S. with community spirit.
The ceremony featured players from all six franchises—Carolina Eagles, Atlanta Blackcaps, California Golden Eagles, Maryland Mavericks, New Jersey Titans, and New York Cowboys.
Season 3 features top talent, including Indian American cricketers Saurabh Netravalkar and Unmukt Chand, and West Indies stars Dwayne Smith and Rahkeem Cornwall. Smith will represent the Maryland Mavericks, while Cornwall captains the Atlanta Blackcaps. Netravalkar joins the New Jersey Titans, and Chand leads the California Golden Eagles.
Special guest for the inauguration Mayor Denise Grant addressed the gathering, which included Commissioners John Hodgson, Richard Campbell, and Ray Martin of the City of Lauderhill and other dignitaries who praised the league’s role in promoting cricket in the United States.
USPL founder and chairman Jaideep Singh emphasized the league's global reach, stating that matches are broadcast on over 15 platforms across 15 countries. "USPL Season 3 is a celebration of cricket, bringing together global talent and local stars to compete at the highest level in America. We are committed to making this season a memorable one," he said.
On the opening day’s matches, the Carolina Eagles faced the California Golden Eagles, followed by a clash between the Maryland Mavericks and the Atlanta Blackcaps.
Cornwall expressed optimism for his team’s performance, saying, "It is an honour for me to lead Atlanta Blackcaps. It is good group of guys and we are looking forward to the tournament. Last season we reached semis and I feel things can go a bit further this year."
Previously, Newyork Cowboys won the grand finale of USPL season 2 against New Jersey Titans.
