Ustad Rashid Khan dies at 55; PM condoles death
Khan is a recipient of Padma Bhushan (2022) and Padma Shri (2006).

Indian classical musician Ustad Rashid Khan passed away at a private hospital in Kolkata on January 9 at the age of 55.
Khan was admitted to the hospital on November 22, 2023, after suffering an intracerebral hemorrhage, according to a report by Hindustan Times.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to social media to condole the death of the Padma Bhushan awardee.
"Pained by the demise of Ustad Rashid Khan Ji, a legendary figure in the world of Indian classical music. His unparalleled talent and dedication to music enriched our cultural world and inspired generations. His passing leaves a void that will be hard to fill,” he posted on X.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee also expressed sadness over the demise of the legendary musician. In a heartfelt message on X, she lauded the artists’ creative genius.

He and Soma, his wife, and son Armaan, and the whole family, were close to us and allowed us to be on their side in the maestro's last journey in life,” her post read.
Khan was born in Badayun, Uttar Pradesh in July 1968 and participated in his first concert at the age of 11. He received Padma Bhushan, India’s third-highest civilian award, in 2022, and Padma Shri, the fourth-highest civilian award, in 2006. He had been battling cancer for a long time.
