The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) has announced the recipients of the 2024 Gold Nugget Awards, recognizing distinguished alumni for contributions to their fields and communities.
Among this year's honorees are three Indian-American engineers, Jaswinder Chadha, Punya Prakash, and Vikram Jayaram, whose accomplishments epitomize UTEP's values of excellence and service.
Jaswinder Chadha, a 1992 graduate with a master’s degree in industrial engineering, founded marketRx, a sales optimization company, in 2000, which was later acquired by Cognizant Technology Solutions for $135 million. He now serves as president and CEO of Axtria, Inc., a big data analytics firm.
Chadha remains deeply connected to UTEP, having contributed to scholarship funds and served on various advisory councils, including the Mike Loya Advisory Council and the Blackstone Launchpad Stewardship Council. His continued involvement reflects his gratitude for UTEP’s pivotal role in shaping his career. He received a Btech degree in Mechanical Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi.
Punya Prakash and Vikram Jayaram, a couple who both earned advanced degrees in electrical engineering from UTEP, were jointly recognized for their contributions to the engineering world.
Prakash, who earned her M.S. in 2009, is the vice president and general manager of Infineon Technologies, a global leader in semiconductor manufacturing. She is recognized for her patents and publications, which have established her as a trailblazer in her field.
Jayaram, who earned his M.S. in 2004 and Ph.D. in 2009, has led an impressive career in data science and artificial intelligence. He is the founder of Neuralix Inc., an AI company providing innovative solutions in the energy and manufacturing sectors. Together, the couple established the Punya and Vikram Jayaram Engineering Endowment to support future UTEP engineers.
