Indian-orgin documentary filmmaker and New York Film Academy (NYFA) professor Kuldeep Sah Gangola has served as assistant editor for the recently released Netflix documentary “How to Rob a Bank.”
The gripping film delves into the story of Scott Scurlock, the world's best bank robber in 1990s Seattle, showcasing his charm, a sprawling treehouse hideout, and an uncanny ability to evade capture using Hollywood-style makeup. The true crime-documentary explores the tension between living a life of total freedom and the inevitable consequences of such actions.
Gangola was an integral part of the intricate storytelling in "How to Rob a Bank" as the assistant editor. The documentary, co-directed by Seth and Stephen, reveals new details about the enigmatic outlaws, including unknown accomplices, heists, and methodologies.
Hailing from the small village of Bageshwar in Uttarakhand, India, Gangola transitioned from commerce to documentary filmmaking after his graduate degree. He has worked with notable platforms such as Amazon Prime, Netflix, and PBS. Besides his filmmaking prowess, Gangola is a certified skydiver and expressed his ambition to combine skydiving skills with cinematography, in a statement to New India Abroad.
In 2019, Gangola served as a judge and screener for the International Documentary Association. Notably, his debut film has been featured in over 15 film festivals across several countries and won three international awards. His work and unique storytelling style have been highlighted by publications such as the Times of India, Thrive Global, and GritDaily, particularly for his portrayal of migration issues in rural India.
As an editing instructor and consultant at the New York Film Academy (NYFA), Gangola teaches across various departments. He is a professionally certified Avid Media Composer editor and is also involved with the BAFTA workshops conducted in New York City.
