UW-Oshkosh appoints Manohar Singh as new chancellor

He most recently served as interim president of Western Connecticut State University.

The Universities of Wisconsin board of regents has announced the appointment of Manohar Singh as the next chancellor of the University of Wisconsin–Oshkosh

Singh will become the 12th leader of UW-Oshkosh, assuming the role on July 1. His appointment was unanimously approved by the board following a recommendation from a search committee that included regents, faculty, staff, and community members.

“As a first-generation college graduate, Manohar Singh believes in the power of higher education to improve lives and is a collaborative leader who builds consensus,” said Jay Rothman, president of the Universities of Wisconsin. “His background in finance and administration will further benefit UW-Oshkosh.”

Singh brings extensive academic and administrative experience. He previously served as dean at Southern Connecticut State University and held leadership roles at Penn State Abington, Humboldt State University, and Long Island University Post. He also taught finance at multiple institutions.

They are the reason I believe in the promise of this university—and the boundless potential of what we can achieve together,” Singh said. 

Singh will succeed chancellor Andrew Leavitt, who plans to return to teaching chemistry at UW-Oshkosh after a sabbatical. He earned bachelor's and master's degrees in economics from Punjab University-Chandigarh, India; a master's from the University of Waterloo in Canada; and a Ph.D. in finance from Southern Illinois University.
