Villanova University appoints Tej Patel as CIO

In his new role, Tej Patel will lead Villanova’s IT strategy, enhancing infrastructure, governance, and technology integration across campus.

Villanova University has named Indian-American information technology (IT) specialist Tej Patel as its new vice president for information technology and chief information officer (CIO), effective Sept. 9. 

In his new role, Patel will oversee Villanova’s technology strategy, focusing on supporting teaching, learning, research, and operations. He will work closely with stakeholders across the university to identify technological needs and opportunities, aiming to improve coordination across IT services and create consistent, intuitive service experiences.

Commenting on his new role, Patel said “I am excited to represent and work alongside the talented technology team at Villanova, and I look forward to collaborating with colleagues across campus.” 

University president Peter M. Donohue, expressed confidence in Patel’s ability to enhance the university’s IT infrastructure and governance. “Tej’s extensive and varied IT knowledge will be invaluable to Villanova as we seek to enhance all aspects of our IT infrastructure and governance. I look forward to working with him as a member of my University leadership team,” president Donohue said. 

Patel will also lead initiatives to expand the use of technology in teaching and research, oversee the transition to a new learning management system, upgrade classroom technology, and enhance research computing capabilities. Additionally, he will focus on improving IT planning and governance to support Villanova’s commitment to shared governance, the university said in a statement.

Before joining Villanova, Patel significantly improved IT processes and infrastructure at Stevens Institute of Technology. He also held IT leadership roles at the University of Pennsylvania, where he earned a Wharton Executive Global C-Suite Diploma. 

Patel holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Montclair State University.
