In a public interaction at the Richard Nixon Foundation in Yorba Linda, California, Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy stated that "America First" is at the heart of his foreign policy. He elaborated on how, if elected, he would apply the Modern Monroe Doctrine combined with Nixon's doctrine to the United States foreign policy.

“I will lead America away from neoconservatism and liberal internationalism and toward defence spending that defends the homeland,” he said.. With only a few days until the first Republican presidential debate, Indian American Ramaswamy worked hard to communicate his vision for advancing the country's growth and interest both within the country and on a global scale.

Ramaswamy cited two approaches in his foreign policy, one for China and Russia and the other for the rest of the world. Emphasizing on Modern Monroe Doctrine’s significance in the context of China and Russia’s influence in current global discourses, he said the move to this modern doctrine aims to “guard our hemisphere” to stave off challenges from great powers such as China and Russia or non-state actors such as terrorists and cartels. He spoke on China and Russia’s military cooperation and China’s interference by spying on the US.

For the rest of the world, a new Nixon Doctrine, where the US allies bear their security burden and provide the primary manpower for their defence, with America being the defender of last resort, he underlined. “Realism over moralism is our goal.”

The 37-year-old vowed to end the war in Ukraine if elected president, stating that he would advance the US interests, by redirecting resources used for Ukraine to securing the border between the US and Mexico. “I refuse to use military resources to defend invasion across somebody else’s border when we should be using resources to defend the invasion across our southern border,” he said iin a video posted on X.

He stated that in foreign policy, everyone has to get something out of the deal; this is realism, and this is the truth. He discussed his strategy for ending the Ukraine war by addressing both Russian and US interests. On US-Russia relations, he said, “DO we trust Vladimir Putin no we don't, does Putin trust us no he does not…….”   He revealed his intention to visit Moscow during his first year in office in 2025. “I will make a trip to Moscow to deliver the same deal that Nixon did when he travelled to China.”

During his engaging speech, the son of immigrant parents, Ramaswamy on illegal immigration, said an immigrant’s “first active entry into this country cannot break the law,” according to a release.

According to a new Emerson College poll, his consistent efforts to appear in public resulted in an impressive result for him. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and entrepreneur Ramaswamy are tied for second place in the Republican presidential primary with 10 percent of the vote. Both are trailing former President Trump, who leads with 56 per cent.
