Biotech entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy secured the endorsement from a controversial former Iowa legislator on January 2.

Former Rep. Steve King, who served on the Judiciary, Agriculture, and Small Business Committees until 2019, announced he “heartily” endorsed Ramaswamy for President.

“Today, I heartily endorsed Vivek Ramaswamy for President. He is wicked smart and as principled. Vivek knows and understands the Constitution and will refurbish the Pillars of American Exceptionalism,” King said on X.

King added that he had been “looking for the strongest voice we have that will defend our constitution and restore the pillars of American exceptionalism. That is Vivek Ramaswamy.”

“Vivek is going to stand up, and is standing up for the rights of we the people. He will build the wall on the border for real and I am asking you to come with me on January 15thcaucus for Vivek Ramaswamy – the strongest voice we have to defend our constitution and re-establish America’s destiny is Vivek Ramaswamy.” King said in an endorsement video.

Responding to King’s remarks, Ramaswamy posted a message on social media, noting, “This isn’t an endorsement from a politician. It’s from a true patriot.” He defended King in an interview when asked about his thoughts regarding King’s racist comments, as alleged in a New York Times article.

King was ousted from the committees for alleged racist comments. He was also removed from the House after Iowans rejected him on the ballot in 2020.

Ramaswamy said the NYT report did not present a single piece of evidence to back their claims, and that he believes King over the publication “that has lied to the Americans for years.”
