Vivek Ramaswamy on considering Donald Trump as VP

Vivek Ramaswamy said he will not play safe when it comes to choosing a Vice President and will select someone better than him in some respects.

Vivek Ramaswamy did not hesitate to answer an Iowa caucusgoer's question about whether or not he would ask former president Donald Trump to be his running mate if he were to win the Republican nomination for president.

“So assuming that Iowans help support you in the caucus, and you do a good one, and you continue to gain momentum… would you consider inviting Donald Trump to act as your Vice President?” a voter asked Ramaswamy at a recent campaign event in Iowa.

The Indian-American presidential candidate said it would be a “reasonable choice” and took to X to share the exchange. “This is the fourth time in 2 weeks that an Iowa caucus goer asked me if I’d be willing to consider Trump as my VP. I answered honestly,” he wrote in the caption.

Responding to the voter’s question, Ramaswamy said, “In recent weeks, this might be about the fourth time I have gotten that question. I think that it could be a pretty sensitive move in the sense that not that he is junior to me or anything else. I view him in that almost senior mentor figure role. But he is going to be in his 80s.”

He continued, “He has been attacked in ways that are completely immoral and unconstitutional in this country. I think that would be the right role for a senior statesman who can pass the torch to the next generation.”

The entrepreneur-turned-politician further noted that it is difficult for him to envision Trump accepting his offer to be the VP. He added that he does not plan on playing it safe and will choose a VP who is better than him in some respects.

Since Trump announced his candidacy for president, Ramaswamy has been an ardent supporter of his. After Trump's name was removed from the ballots in Maine and Colorado, Ramaswamy threatened to withdraw from the primary elections in those states, and he has also promised to pardon Trump for all the criminal indictments.

Meanwhile, Trump, a frontrunner in a majority of states among GOP voters, has also showered praise on Ramaswamy.
