Newly-established organization called the Women's Cricket Council of America (WCCA) recently hosted its first-ever league on the occasion of Mother's Day in Chicago.

Four teams — Naperville Riders, Hoffman Hawks, Schaumburg Boomers and North Stars — all from different cities participated in the league matches. The Hawks won the series and claimed the championship trophy.

The inaugural league event was attended by Chicago state representative Michelle Mussman, American Premier Cricket League founder Subbu Iyer and WCCA executive board members Vibha, Gupta Iyer, Ajanta Talukdar and Prachi Jaitly.

Founded by the American Premier Cricket League, WCCA aims to promote cricket in the US through mentoring female athletes and organizing county, state and national level B-leagues in the future.

The objectives of the first event on Mother's Day were listed as: establishing the women’s committee in order to represent the international Women’s Cricket Council, promoting opportunities for women to work with the APCL academy, including becoming a certified coach, and earning while playing, and celebrating mothers.
