We hope any country on planet condemns terrorism: US on India-Pak ties

The United States on July.1 reiterated its stand on terrorism, saying that it hopes any country on the planet condemns terrorism anywhere.
“We would hope that any country on the face of the planet condemns terrorism anywhere,” said Vedant Patel, Principal Deputy Spokesperson for the US Department of State, during a media briefing.
“But ultimately this is between India and Pakistan,” he added.
Patel was responding to a question asked by a reporter about where the US relations stand with India and Pakistan. The reporter restated Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s intent to maintain good relations with Pakistan during his third term in Centre.
“Broadly, of course, we welcome any countries making more positive relations with their neighbors,” he continued. “But as it relates to this specifically, I just – I don’t have anything to offer.”
US on India ties with Iran and Russia
In another question, Patel responded regarding US-India relations, noting the complexities arising from countries like Iran and North Korea, which face strained relations with Washington.
Patel emphasized that the United States is deepening its relations with India across several key areas. "India is a country in which we are deepening our relations within a number of key spaces, especially as it relates to deepening our economic ties, deepening our security cooperation," he said.
He further noted that President Joe Biden had the opportunity to briefly meet Prime Minister Modi on the sidelines of the G7 summit a couple of weeks ago. "So, this is an area we will continue to cultivate this relationship," Patel said.
“You are no stranger to the fact that we hosted India for a state visit last summer, and I imagine there’ll be a number of additional areas where we continue to deepen cooperation. National Security Advisor Sullivan just had a visit to Delhi a number of weeks ago as well,” he added.
