What RNC's new platform says about immigration
This is the first platform released by the party since 2016 and details several key immigration policies.

The Republican National Committee (RNC) unveiled the party’s 2024 Platform earlier this week outlining the party’s stance on a number of key issues including immigration. This comes ahead of the party’s national convention set to take place in Milwaukee from July.15 to 18.
The platform lists 20 promises that largely mirror Donald Trump’s stance on important issues such as immigration and abortion. It also makes Trump’s campaign slogan, Make America Great Again, an official tagline of the party.
The immigration related promises are:

Seal the Border and Stop the Migrant Invasion
The platform promises an aggressive approach to ending “open-border policies” and the “Invasion at the Southern Border.” It includes restoring Trump-era border policies, completing the border wall, deploying advanced technology, and moving troops to the southern border..

Enforce Immigration Laws
Republicans plan to strengthen ICE, increase penalties for illegal entry and visa overstays, and reinstate the “Remain in Mexico” policy. The platform also proposes invoking the Alien Enemies Act to remove gang members, drug dealers, and cartel members from the U.S., reintroducing the travel ban, and using Title 42 to address child trafficking.

Largest Deportation Program
The platform commits to reversing the Democrats’ “Open Borders Policies” by conducting the largest deportation operation in American history, focusing on removing illegal immigrants who have violated U.S. laws.

Strict Vetting
Republicans plan to use federal law to prevent the entry of individuals deemed hostile to American values, including “Christian-hating Communists, Marxists, and Socialists.” The platform emphasizes extreme vetting to exclude jihadists and their sympathizers.

Stop Sanctuary Cities
The platform calls for cutting federal funding to sanctuary cities that do not cooperate with federal immigration enforcement, and requires local authorities to hand over illegal immigrants to ICE.

Merit-Based Immigration
Republicans will prioritize merit-based immigration, ending chain migration and prioritizing American workers.
“Only President Trump can restore our economy, restore our Southern Border, and restore America’s standing in the world,” said RNC chairman Michael Whatley and RNC co-chair Lara Trump in a statement.
“His 2024 Republican Party Platform is a bold roadmap that will undo the devastating damage that Joe Biden’s far-left policies have done to this country, power President Trump to a historic victory in November, and Make America Great Again,” they added.
