The WHEELS Global Foundation (WGF) has been recognized with the prestigious Poshan Award by Sadguru Sai Madhusudhan of the Sri Sathya Sai Annapurna Trust.
This award celebrates WHEELS dedication to advancing nutritional health, maternal and new born care, and telehealth innovation. The recognition underscores the foundation's commitment to addressing critical healthcare challenges and promoting well-being in underserved rural communities.
Leveraging its network with influential donors and activists, WHEELS is proud to support Sai Sure, a leading manufacturer of nutritional supplements that provides daily breakfast to 10 million children from 143,000 Schools in most underserved communities across more than ten States; Assam being the latest one.
This initiative ensures that young minds get the nourishment they need to thrive, regardless of the economic status or geographical location.
WHEELS has partnered with the National Health Mission, Department of Public Health and Family Welfare, Government of Madhya Pradesh to launch the New Born Nutritional Health Initiative. This strategic and technology-driven program seeks to make a meaningful impact on the lives of over 10 million mothers and new-borns across rural Madhya Pradesh.
The program has already successfully trained nearly 25,000 health workers, including ASHAs, Anganwadi workers, and ANMs, along with the entire supervisory leadership chain, across seven districts. What sets this initiative apart is its comprehensive approach- it not only provides field workers with rigorous training but also includes extensive testing and validation to ensure mastery of new techniques and their effective application in real-life scenarios with mothers and babies.
The program has now expanded to Jharkhand and Meghalaya, with active negotiations underway to roll it out in four other major states—West Bengal, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, and Himachal Pradesh.
In another pioneering effort WHEELS is supporting Sai Madhusudhan Medical Hospital in an initiative called ‘Sai on WHEELS’ medical bus, a mobile healthcare unit designed to bring essential medical services to rural areas. This innovative solution aims to integrate WHEELS telemedicine model & low-cost diagnostic innovations from IIT system to addresses healthcare access challenges by delivering timely care to communities that need it the most.
WHEELS is incorporating state-of-the-art low-cost diagnostic and screening tools developed in IITs to provide early detection and accurate treatment to further enhance healthcare outcomes in underserved regions. Some examples are very low cost and environmentally resilient tests for anaemia, diabetes, oral cancer, cervical cancer, and infectious diseases. These initiatives exemplify WHEELS commitment to leveraging technology and partnerships to create a lasting social impact.
WHEELS , by deploying such programs, aims to achieve the shared objectives of Technology Driven Transformation of India’s 20 percent of “Rurban” population that is 180m+ people, by 2030 in support of India’s vision of becoming a developed economy by 2047.
We urge all of you with interest in supporting the large underserved segment of India’s future to join WHEELS’ efforts by visiting WHEELS WEBSITE and Getting Involved section which provides numerous ways for you to be part of our journey. Visit www.wheelsglobal.org
