The United States will continue to raise concerns and expect accountability from India in its investigation into the allegations of attempts to assassinate pro-Khalistan lawyer Gurpatwant Singh Pannun on American soil, Karine Jean-Pierre, White House press secretary said on Apr.29.

Her remarks come in light of a Washington Post (WaPo) report that revealed the name of the Indian government official involved in the foiled plot to assassinate Pannun.

While Jean-Pierre did not confirm or deny the report’s claims she told reporters at the briefing that it was an “ongoing investigation.”

Maintaining that India is an important strategic partner, she said, “This is a serious matter, and we're taking that very, very seriously. The government of India has been very clear with us that they are taking this seriously and will investigate.”

“We expect accountability from the government based on that. But we are going to continue to raise our concerns. That's not going to stop. We're going to continue to raise our concerns directly, with the Indian government,” the press secretary added.

According to the WaPo report, the individual listed as "CC-1" in the US indictment that was unsealed in November 2023 in relation to the Pannun case was identified as Vikram Yadav, an official from the Research and Analysis Wing (an Indian government agency).

The WaPo report also shed light on the alleged involvement of senior Indian officials in the assassination plot, including Samant Goel, the former RAW chief.
