Indian American venture capitalist and tech zealot, Vinod Khosla said the world will make more societal progress in the next two decades compared to the progress made in the past 20 decades by just by adopting technology in various areas. He made the remarks during a keynote session at the IIT Global Conference in Washington on Jan.12.

Speaking to Arjun Malhotra, chairman of Magic Software,on the effect of technology on GDP, Khosla said, “I couldn’t find an area of GDP Where you couldn’t do a 5-10X multiplication of resources by using them (technologies) better, instead of having more..”

“Most of the jobs on the planet are undesirable jobs that people do because they need to. And I think that need will go away because there’ll be sufficient, abundance in technology,” Khosla said adding that he has made 11 prediction for the future of the world in the next 25 years.

One of his forecasts is that, in the next quarter of a century, one billion bipedal robots will be in use; these robots will be able to perform more physical labor than all of humanity combined, effectively eliminating the necessity for human labor. In the future, he said, fusion energy would supersede conventional energy sources, and the globe will be devoid of coal and natural gas plants.

The 68-year-old claims that the past three years have been a watershed moment for innovation globally, thanks to the COVID-19 epidemic, the Russia-Ukraine crisis, and the surge of AI. The first resulted in an energy transistion, the pandemic caused a shift in dependance on China for manufacturing while the advent of AI brought to light indefinite capabilities of technology.

“Ukraine, Covid and finally AI has created an opportunity for all entrepreneurs here that is larger than anything we can imagine,” he asserted. He went on to say that startups and small organizations frequently make more revolutionary strides in innovation than larger corporations in any industry.
