With a scintillating performance, three-time world champion Yogesh Pardeshi of India won the coveted singles title at the 2023 US Open Carrom Championship in Frederick, Maryland. Pardeshi defeated fellow Indian Anil Vemuri in a true carrom showdown, stunning the audience with an extraordinary display of precision and strategy.
Meanwhile, in the doubles format, the powerful combo of Yogesh Pardeshi and Anil Vemuri from India won the title. They faced tough competition from their archrivals Chamil Cooray of the Netherlands/Sri Lanka and Louis Fernandes of Canada. However, Pardeshi and Vemuri delivered a clinical performance, winning the championship thanks to their talent and teamwork.
The 2023 US Open Carrom Championship, a famous event in the world of carrom, was held from September 8-10, 2023, at the ballroom of the Hampton Inn in the historic city of Frederick, Maryland. The competition, co-organized by the United States Carrom Association (USCA) and the Lakmithuro Carrom Association (LCA), drew carrom fans from all over the world for an unforgettable display of talent and camaraderie.
The competition featured two spectacular carrom formats: singles and doubles. All participants competed in four divisions: Champions, Challengers, Enthusiasts, and Amateurs. This tiered approach ensured that participants of various skill levels could demonstrate their abilities and compete against their peers.
The ceremony was attended by Frederick City Mayor Michael O'Connor, who executed the traditional break on the carrom board, formally proclaiming the Championship open. A total of 780 matches were played over three exciting days, delivering an action-packed spectacle for both participants and spectators.
Born and raised in Pune, Pardeshi won the state-level carrom championship in 1997 and cut Maharashtra state team for the national carrom championship in 1998.
In 2000 he was part of the Indian national team which participated in the 3rd world Carrom championship held at New Delhi. Later in 2001 he represented India in the 1st Carrom World Cup held in London and was runner-up in doubles and secured third place in the singles competition. He proceeded to hold the World Champion title in the 2nd Carrom World Cup held at New Delhi in 2006 and the 5th World Carrom Championship at France {Cannes} in 2008 and retained the championship in the recently held 3rd Carrom World Cup in America in 2010.
