Stand-up comedian Zarna Garg, a regular at Comedy Cellar and Carolines on Broadway in NYC, recently appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon to talk about her latest movie ‘A Nice Indian Boy’, directed by Canadian filmmaker Roshan Sethi.
Garg is an Indian immigrant mom who made her late-night television debut on the show doing stand-up comedy in January 2024. And now she has a memoir -This American Woman: A One-In-A-Billion, and a movie. Fallon congratulated her saying this is fantastic.
Garg, 50, said that it was her kids who encouraged her to do stand-up comedy, and she had to remind them that they are Indians. “We don’t believe in fun,” she shared. Garg added that her kids are very much impressed with themselves as they found a way to get their mom out of the house nights and weekends.
Before getting into stand-up comedy, Garg revealed that she was a lawyer. “I’m licensed to practice in New York, but I was really bad at it.” The comedian said that at one point all her clients were in jail. “They were guilty, but that’s not the point. The judge would call me in and be like ‘Do you know what a defense lawyer does?’. And I was like, ‘But you and I both know he did it’.”
